Elmhurst Eagles Cheer is an award winning recreational cheer and pom program that dates back to 1964! Each and every year, our teams compete at the State level and bring home State championships! Our recreational program does not require try-outs or evaluations to be placed on any of our teams. However, we do offer different programs so that everyone can experience the sport at a cost and commitment level they are comfortable with.
Due to reduced facilities space as a result of COVID, please consider registering as early as possible. It is our hope that more space will open up as we get closer to normal operations within D205. We anticipate lots of changes from now until our season begins in August.

Our Mini-Cheer program is a half-season introduction to the sport of cheer for our youngest athletes in 1st and 2nd grade. Practices will focus on sideline cheers, jumps, basic stunts and formation changes. Our mini cheerleaders will also cheer a minimum of 4 games supporting our flag football players on the home game sidelines. The season begins in August and ends in mid-October. The season may be extended if all coaches, parents and athletes desire. Mini-Cheer is $199.
Our Competition Cheer program is for 3rd through 6th grade athletes who would like to experience the full sport of cheer. Tumbling, stunting, jumps, motions and dance are all put into a professionally choreographed routine that is performed at 2-4 competitions throughout the season. Competitions are mandatory. Competition cheerleaders also cheer at a minimum of 4 football games and volunteer in the community. These teams commit to practicing 4-8 hours per week. Competition Cheer is $499, not including the cost of uniforms.
VARSITY ELITE CHEER
Our Varsity Elite Cheer program is being introduced this year to allow our most dedicated and committed cheerleaders an opportunity to take their skills to the next level and prepare them for HS cheer and beyond. No cheer experience is necessary for this program. Gymnasts and dancers make great cheerleaders too! As the intensity of this sport continues to grow, even at the recreational and HS levels, we would like to provide an option for athletes who desire more of a challenge and have the skills for a higher level of cheer and want to continue their cheer career beyond the Elmhurst Eagles program. This team will be a combined 7th and 8th grade squad competing at the 8th grade level at IRCA. If your daughter/son chooses this program, they would be encouraged to attend a minimum of 1x week tumbling classes starting March 1 and stunt clinics throughout the remainder of the year until our season begins in August. If your daughter is a flyer, we also recommend a flexibility class. A minimum standing back handspring and running roundoff back handspring would be strongly encouraged for this team (exceptions may be made for seasoned athletes who show strong skills in other areas). Flyers should be able to pull and hold body positions. These additional classes would not be included in your registration fees. Gym and coach recommendations are available. Varsity Elite Cheer is $499.
Due to increased demand, the Elmhurst Eagles is excited to reintroduce our Poms program for our non-tumble/stunt athletes or anyone who just loves to dance! With a newfound enthusiasm for pom and dance sweeping the nation, we are thrilled to revamp this part of our program and compete actively in the pom and dance category at IRCA! In addition to utilizing the cheer skills they have learned in our cheer program, our poms team will improve on the latest dance technique, motions, transitions and jumps as well as stage presence. A professionally choreographed routine will be performed at several competitions throughout the season as well as the State championship if the team qualifies! No experience is necessary for this team but a background in dance and/or cheer is helpful!
Due to coaching and facility limitations we can only offer this program to grades 7-8 at this time. This will be a combined grade level team competing at the grade level of the oldest athlete on the team. Varsity Poms is $499.
PRACTICE & CHOREOGRAPHY
Practices will begin on Monday August 2nd for all teams. Choreography for our competition cheer and pom teams will be held the week of August 9th. Choreography is mandatory, without exception, so please plan accordingly. Exact practice times and locations are still to be determined.
All teams will cheer HOME games only at Berens Park. Cheerleaders are expected to cheer sidelines during the entire duration of the game and both cheerleaders and poms are expected to perform a halftime routine. Games will be assigned as soon as the football schedule is released in early August.
1st and 2nd Grade Mini: Mini Cheer will cheer for 4 flag football games during the months of September and October. Additional games may be added if all coaches, athletes and parents desire.
Homecoming weekend is a fun tradition for our Eagles football players, cheerleaders, coaches and families! Some squads may cheer more than one game during Homecoming Weekend in October. All cheer and pom team will be expected to perform during the Homecoming Pep Rally. Attendance at Pep Rally is mandatory and will take the place of practice that evening. Homecoming pep rally dates are TBD but typically on a Thursday evening in October.
3rd - 6th grade competition teams will perform at 2-4 competitions throughout the season, in addition to the IRCA State competition in December if their team qualifies. Varsity cheer and poms will perform at 3-5 competitions throughout the season, in addition to the State Championship, if their teams qualify. All competitions are local and do not require extensive travel. Attendance at all competitions is mandatory, without exception. The competition schedule is released in April.
All cheerleaders will receive an Eagles Cheer warm up jacket included in the cost of the program.
1st - 2nd Grade Mini Cheer: Uniforms and bows are provided for all Mini Cheerleaders. White cheer shoes and black spanks must be provided by the parents. There may be additional (minor) uniform requirements throughout the season.
3rd - 8th Grade Competition Cheer and Poms: Uniform and cheer shoes are not included in the Competition Cheer program and must be purchased by the parents. Uniforms are approximately $200 for 3rd - 6th grade and $275 for Varsity. Fundraising options are available. Competition bow will be provided.
