OUR PROGRAM

Elmhurst Eagles Cheer is an award winning recreational cheer program that dates back to 1964! Each and every year, our teams compete at the State level and bring home State championships! Our recreational program does not require tryouts or evaluations to be placed on any of our teams. However, we do offer different programs so that everyone can experience the sport at a cost and commitment level they are comfortable with. We are proud members of both BGYFL and the ICA.

MINI-CHEER

Our Mini-Cheer program is a half-season introduction to the sport of cheer for our youngest athletes in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. Practices will focus on sideline cheers, jumps, basic stunts, and formation changes. Our mini cheerleaders will also cheer a minimum of 4 games, supporting our flag football players on the home game sidelines. The season begins in August and ends in mid-October. All practices are held outdoors, weather permitting. The season may be extended if all coaches, parents and athletes desire. Mini-Cheer is $249.

SIDELINE ONLY CHEER

The Eagles offer a sideline only option for grades 3-8. This program is for athlete who would like to experience cheer in a fun, safe environment with their friends. Athletes will practice once per week, learning all of the sideline cheers, jumps, and stunting. All sideline cheerleaders will also participate in a performance during our Homecoming Pep Rally. Anticipate cheering at 6-8 games throughout the season, which runs from August until early November. As Eagles Football teams transition into the post season, the sideline cheer season may be extend if all coaches, parents, and athletes desire. Cheering at a Super Bowl game will earn the girls a special BGYFL medal.  Sideline only cheer is $249.

COMPETITION CHEER

Our Competition Cheer program is for 3rd through 8th grade athletes who would like to experience the full sport of cheer. Tumbling, stunting, jumps, motions, and dance are all put into a professionally choreographed routine that is performed at 2-4 mandatory competitions throughout the season. Competition cheerleaders also cheer at a minimum of 4 football games and volunteer in the community. These teams commit to practicing 4-8 hours per week.

As the intensity of this sport continues to grow, even at the recreational and HS levels, we encourage all cheerleaders to attend a minimum of 1x week tumbling classes and Eagles sponsored stunt clinics throughout the year. If your daughter is a flyer, we also recommend a flexibility class. All cheerleaders are expected to continue advancing their tumbling skills during their commitment to the Elmhurst Eagles cheer program. Please see our tumbling expectations chart in the parent/athlete handbook. Flyers should be able to pull and hold body positions. Teams are formed by grade level. It may be necessary to combine grades depending on enrollment.

Competition Cheer is $600.

PRACTICE & CHOREOGRAPHY

Practices will begin on Monday, August 1st for all teams. Choreography for our competition cheer teams will be held the week of August 8th. Choreography is mandatory, without exception. Please plan accordingly. Exact practice times and locations are still to be determined.

FOOTBALL GAMES

All teams will cheer home games only at Berens Park. Cheerleaders are expected to cheer sidelines during the entire duration of the game and perform a halftime routine. Games will be assigned as soon as the football schedule is released in early August. Mini Cheer will cheer for 4 flag football games during the months of September and October. Additional games may be added if all coaches, athletes, and parents desire.

HOMECOMING

Homecoming weekend is a fun tradition for our Eagles football players, cheerleaders, coaches, and families! Some squads may cheer more than one game during Homecoming Weekend in October.  All cheer teams will be expected to perform during the Homecoming Pep Rally. Attendance at Pep Rally is mandatory and will take the place of practice that evening. Homecoming pep rally dates are TBD but typically on a Thursday evening in October.

COMPETITIONS

Competition teams will perform at 3-5 competitions throughout the season, plus the ICA State competition in December if their team qualifies. All competitions are local and do not require extensive travel. Attendance at all competitions is mandatory, without exception. Competition dates for the 2023 season are September 24th, October 7th, November 5th, and November 19th. State Championships will take place November 30th through December 3rd.
